What is testosterone replacement therapy?
For men who aren’t producing an appropriate amount of testosterone, replacement therapies use a number of different methods to reintroduce the male hormone into the body. This can include gels, injections, patches, or even pellet implants. You can discuss your symptoms and preferences with us and together determine the best treatment plan your specific situation.
Treatment options
- Lifestyle changes: These include activities that help minimizing stress, regular exercise, weight loss, a healthy diet, and the right amount of quality sleep.
- Topical gels: These work by replacing the testosterone that would normally be produced by the body. In general, topical gels are not as well absorbed throughout the body as injectable medications and implants.
- Patches: Like gels, patches replace testosterone that would normally be produced by the body. They’re typically applied to the back at night.
- Oral medication: Usually taken twice daily, pills are prescribed for men who experience testosterone deficiency due to structural or genetic causes.
- Short-term injections: These short-acting injections are self-administered. We’ll teach you how, where, and how often to administer the injection.
- Intranasal treatments: Another form of short-acting testosterone that you can administer yourself, typically three times a day.
- Long-term Injections: Usually administered in your doctor’s office, these injections are given into the gluteus muscle in the buttocks. After your first injection, you’ll return for your next in 4 weeks, then every 10 weeks following that.
